Pierce, Raiders Coaching Staff Ranked

The Las Vegas Raiders have almost an entirely new coaching staff, which was ranked amongst other staff around the league.

The Las Vegas Raiders’ firing of Josh McDaniels last offseason sent their coaching staff into a state of sudden change midway through last season. Owner Mark Davis quickly and confidently moved to promote Antonio Pierce to interim head coach.

The move would transform a Raiders team that looked lifeless in its first eight games of the season under McDaniels into a formidable opponent every week under Pierce, regardless of the opponent. The Raiders players looked like a completely different team under Pierce, seemingly from the first day McDaniels was fired. At every turn, the Raiders played with a different level of intensity and focus under Pierce, even in their losses.

This offseason, the Raiders have meticulously assembled their coaching staff. Their additions, combined with the experience Pierce gained during the last nine games of the season, can propel the Raiders to the playoffs next season—or, at the very least, help them get a step closer.  Las Vegas has surrounded Pierce with the coaching experience he admittedly lacks and will add it to his leadership style that can only be replicated by a few.

Pro Football Network’s Dallas Robinson ranked the coaches around the league, ranking Pierce near the bottom of the list. Robinson was fair in his assessment, noting that while nine games aren’t enough sample size to judge Pierce, the fact that players on the team campaigned so hard for their coach, he deserves a chance to prove himself as the team’s permanent coach. The Raiders officially gave Pierce that chance shortly after the season ended.

“Antonio Pierce immediately transformed the Raiders’ locker room culture after the departure of former HC Josh McDaniels, so much so that Las Vegas’ players vigorously campaigned for Pierce to remain the club’s full-time head coach,” Robinson said.

“While judging a nine-game sample is challenging, Pierce deserves a chance to prove himself in 2024.”
